Need to Finish

Well, it has been awhile since I last updated....whoops!  What a whirlwind of busy weekends (not updating the house or blog).  But we were able to spend time with family, catch up with friends, and just love being our little family of three (plus Ollie!).

Good news! The tile floor is laid, the tile is on the wall in the shower, the new toilet is in, and there is paint on the walls! My compliments to my amazing tile guy, Tyler. He figured it all out and got it in over a couple weekends. What a difference it is making already. But, man am I ready for it to be completed.

Items left to be completed:
1. Lighting*
2. Countertop (need to pick it out and install)*
3. Pick out the faucets/sinks
4. Paint the wood vanity, doors, and trim
5. Grout the tile in the shower
6. Put in the shower head
7. Pick out the shower curtain and accessories
8. Put in new light switches/air duct/outlet covers

*Thank you to Tyler's sisters (Kirsten & Tracey) for convincing Tyler that we need new countertops and can lighting!! :)

Fantastically terrible picture of me tearing out the drywall in the shower area

That's it! But, dear me, that list seems dauntingly long and never ending!  I need this project to be done, because I've started pinning other rooms in the house and I am ready to move on. HA!  Poor Tyler, I may end up giving him a heart attack trying to get this list of projects/pintrest list completed.

Before under the cabinets

Oh what a little paint will do!

We are a little stuck on what to do for the countertop.  I'm actually toying with the idea of doing a concrete countertop.  But I'm also terrified of what that might actually entail.  If there is anyone out there that has done a concrete countertop (either DYI or paid for someone else to do it for you), I am all ears!

New toilet, blue walls, white tile, old countertop :(
I am really excited for the lighting and can't wait for it to be done for the big reveal. The whole project has been a lot of stress fun.  I can't tell you the number of trips we have made to Menards.  I love going in with an idea of what we want....and then, coming out with something COMPLETELY different.  We thought we were gong to get grey 2" matte octagon tile with a 2" matte white octagon tile border.  But, we couldn't find the tile for less than $15 a linear foot.  Which just felt ridiculous....for a floor....or really anything less than gold (just kidding).

Plank floor tiles with metal accent tiles framing the room
We did however, find a dark gray 2' plank tile and these really awesome metallic tiles.  Using the same idea of framing the room, we were able to accomplish a similar idea (framing the room) but with completely different shapes and colors.  However, now that the floor is in, I'm not sure what I was thinking.....octagon?! HA!  I love the floor...even if it wasn't the original idea/plan.  That is half the fun.

Metal accent tiles in shower and white tile on the upper portion (still need the shower head)

In order to save some money, we did keep the original white 4" square tiles on the walls/bath tub area.  We also found tile to match and extended the tile up the wall in the shower.  In order to tie the floor and walls together, we found a 4" square metal tile and a metal accent tile and put that in above the existing white tile.  We were going to re-grout the white tile with a medium grey grout.....but that turned our HORRIBLY. Not something I recommend for the novice.  The lines had varying thicknesses that were very noticeable because we picked such a stark contrast between the white tile and gray grout.  So we took out the gray grout and went with a simple white...not my first choice for trying to keep clean, but it looks better (at least for now).

Lone Wolf paint color going up on the walls
I'm so excited for these old lights to go!

The paint is a smoky blue/gray color called "lone wolf." I couldn't be happier with the color.  We will have to keep all the accessories/accents pretty light, but I love the way the wall color makes the white tile pop.

We are past the half way mark.  Hopefully, we can finish soon and show the big final reveal.  Wish us luck with he remainder!  Until next time,
